ACH Fraud

ACH Fraud

Automated clearing house (ACH) payments have become more common in recent years, and so have instances of ACH fraud. ACH payments are electronic checks people and businesses use for direct deposits, bill payments, and cash transfers. While they are relatively secure, criminals only need to obtain an account and routing number to commit fraud. They get these in various ways, such as through targeted phishing attacks or data breaches. Because it’s all electronic, once fraud is initiated, the victim’s money can be moved out of their account before they even realize it’s gone.
